The Mireille Silver Leaf Top Cream Nightstand by EKAR FURNITURE is a classical French bedside table built around a simple idea, one cool-toned surface over one warm-toned body. The top is finished in silver leaf, worked so the surface reads aged and uneven rather than mirror-bright, with a shaped moulded edge that runs all the way around the piece. Beneath it the body is painted in a soft, muted cream, and the front is made up of two shallow drawers whose faces bow gently outward in a continuous serpentine curve. The whole table stands on slender cabriole legs with a carved floral rosette at the centre of the apron between them. From a distance the nightstand reads as pale, calm, and slim; up close it is full of small movement in the curved fronts, the carved rosette, and the hand-worked metal leaf above. The silver-leaf top is the part that gives the piece its character. Metal leaf is laid by hand over the prepared surface and then worked back so the tone breaks and varies across the face, giving a soft, aged pewter-like shimmer rather than a flat, even silver. That variation is deliberate, since a perfectly uniform metal surface tends to look cold and new, while a hand-worked one holds light unevenly and looks like something that has been rubbed smooth over years. The top is edged with a shaped, swelled moulding that carries the same leaf finish, so the silver wraps around the perimeter and reads as a solid cap sitting over the cream body below. It is also a genuinely practical surface at the bedside, since it takes a lamp, a glass, and a book without marking, and is sealed and cured in-house to hold its tone through daily use.
Below, the body is shaped rather than squared. The two drawer fronts are built on a serpentine line, each face bowing softly outward and meeting at the centre in a subtle dip, so the front of the nightstand is never a flat plane. That curve is what allows the light to run across the cream paint and pick out the shape of the piece, and it is the detail that separates a proper French bedside table from a box with decorative legs. Each drawer is fitted with a small turned knob at its centre, kept deliberately modest so the curve of the front remains the main feature. The drawers run on smooth, fitted runners and sit within a carcase built to keep the serpentine line true over years of opening and closing, and the sides of the body are panelled and finished to the same standard as the front.
The lower part of the nightstand carries the carving. The apron beneath the drawers is shaped in a soft, dipping curve and set at its centre with a hand-worked floral rosette, a small clustered flower with leaves running outward to either side, so the decoration gathers at the middle of the piece and the ends are left quiet. From the apron the legs fall in a clean cabriole curve, rounded at the knee and tapering to a small foot, which lifts the body high enough off the floor for a lamp and a cloth to pass underneath and keeps the small footprint of the piece feeling light. The cream paint is carried over the carving and the legs, so the rosette and the line of the apron are read through shadow rather than through colour contrast.
